TIAG 8601 - Terminology Management |
Offers a hands-on introduction to the principles and practice of terminology management and bilingual lexicography in the information age, both as a translation-support service and as a stand-alone language-industry activity. After a brief presentation of the theoretical issues that inform terminology management, students are walked through the process of user and user-need analysis, assemblying and processing corpora for terms and other information, defining glossary and glossary record structures, processing collocations, composing definitions, and implementing hardcopy and online bilingual terminological dictionaries. The outcome of the course is an individual (or small-group) online bilingual glossary that is used to measure student learning.
