MPAG 8583 - Starting your own SCO
Social purpose organizations are designed to create shared value for a community or a society, rather than economic value for individuals or institutions. This course walks you through what it takes to become one of these social purpose organizations and lays out many of the principles and strategies social entrepreneurs employ, both practical and philosophical. Students will be immersed in the process of creating and growing a social enterprise. Student will be required to develop a concept for a feasible social enterprise and will work in teams to generate creative design (ideation), organizational strategy, collaboration strategies, finance strategies, and communication tactics for social change. Case studies and readings will be drawn from both the nonprofit and business sectors. Novel design, pitching and communication skills will be prioritized. The course will be delivered over two weekends( Friday through Sunday) and students will be expected to complete group assignments in between classes.
