Institutions of higher education offer a microcosm of the challenges and opportunities of integrating sustainability into the daily functions and the long-term decision-making processes of an organizational or institutional setting (local or regional governments, corporations etc.). Over the last 10 years, colleges and universities throughout the country (and the world) have created and integrated sustainability into the curriculum and operations of their institutions. In California, 90% of the UC system and the CSU system have full-time professional positions focused on sustainability. The campus setting provides opportunities and challenges that are unique, but not entirely dissimilar from corporations or other government agencies. This workshop will provide students with an opportunity to delve into a potential career field, while also developing skills and knowledge that can be leveraged in any sustainability-related work environment.
