INTD 1078 - Nuclear Arms Control
*Nuclear Arms Control, Nonproliferation and Disarmament Verification: Challenges and Opportunities* In this interdisciplinary course and table-top simulation exercise, students will develop a basic understanding of the political, legal, and technical concepts underpinning nuclear arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament verification mechanisms. Participating students will utilize this knowledge and newly acquired skills to role-play decision makers in a relevant security and decision-making process with the goal of negotiating a response to a critical nuclear proliferation concern. Students will gain insights into the challenges associated with past and existing verification mechanisms, and examine ways to further strengthen these capabilities, including through the use of new tools such as geospatial imagery and 3D modeling. Students will also have the opportunity to virtually interact with a number of renowned policy experts, national and international diplomats, and verification-related scientists and technical experts.
